Gmail Labs

If you work a ?desk job? then you might be prone to keeping, or even needing to keep, your email account(s) open during the day?fielding emails amidst your general slog of Internet-based activities. If you use Gmail, it?s worth spending a few minutes checking out Gmail Labs: a place where Gmail?s experimental ideas and features go to be tested before becoming regular features, or disappearing into the nether reaches of the Web forever.

Access Mail settings via the gear icon in the upper right hand corner of your Gmail account, then click Labs. Take a few minutes to see if anything tickles you here.

Several that I use and can recommend include the following:

Google Calendar gadget: Adds GCalendar features, such as upcoming events, locations and details, to the left hand column of your inbox.

Google Docs gadget: Lets you search through recently accessed Google Documents via a search window.

Gmaps Preview: Any emails featuring addresses will show a Google Map preview of said location.

Undo Send: Self-explanatory (and slightly magical), Undo Send gives you a few second window to retract an email you sent.

Be sure to click Save Changes once you?ve enabled any one, or several, gadgets. Also remember that since these are features in testing, they may disappear, or perhaps even become full fledged features in Gmail, at any time. And, of course, watch the Grovo lessons for more on Gmail.
